THE 2007 EDUCATION HOMESTAY TRIP TO JAPAN

[June. 14 - July. 3 Tentative Dates]

Are you interested in visiting Japan for 3 weeks in the next summer to learn more about their people, custom, family life, language, education system, art, etc.? Since its inauguration in 1990, Oregon Intercultural Association has been offering an educational-cultural homestay trip to Japan every summer for interested students, parents, and teachers for the last 14 years. Last summer, a group of 30 students, parents, and teachers from various schools in Oregon participated in our program.

Since 1990 Japan homestay program has been made possible by the generous support of several

Japanese cities an Saitama, Gifu, Toyama, Oita, and Kumamoto Prefectures (Kyushu Island) as well as

various civic and volunteer organizations such as Jaycees, Rotary Club, Lions Club, etc.

During the last 14 years over 400 students, teachers, and parents from various high schools in

Oregon including some middle schools, colleges and universities participated in this program. Among

those high schools are Beaverton, Westview, Jesuit, Gresham, Saint Mary, Central Catholic, Oregon

Episcopal, Valley Catholic, Forest Grove, Gaston, Aloha, Hillsboro, Sunset, Lincoln, Lake Oswego, Franklin, Tigard, Gladston, Sam Barlow, Corvallis, McKay, West Albany, Central, McMinnville, Sheridan Japanese Program, Skywiew (WA), etc. Among those colleges and universities include Oregon State University, Pacific University, George Fox University, Western Oregon State University, University of Washington, P.C.C., Clackamas C.C. and Shemakatah C.C.

In each of the cities we visit, four different families (Gifu, Kumamoto and Saitama - one to a family

in general) will host us. On weekdays a variety of activities are featured such as visiting schools (high school, middle school, elementary school, college or university) and industry such as Toyota or Honda, calling on the mayor of the host-cities, experiencing the traditional Japanese tea ceremony, music, folk dance, martial arts, and going on full-day cultural trips to Tokyo, Kyoto or Nara, Hiroshima, Miyajima. Kumamoto, etc., and participating in an international seminar. In the evening and weekends, our host families will treat us various social activities and local sightseeing.

The low cost of this program is another big attraction.

The cost of the 2005 Japan trip will be $1,860 including a round trip air between Portland

and Nagoya by Japan Airlines, all meals (several lunches on own during tours or free time)

all activities mentioned above and homestay. The cost also includes all scheduled trips and

sightseeing tours by "bullet train" and chartered bus. The cost of the Japan trip may vary slightly

subject to new cost in air and land for 2005, but we will do our best to keep the cost low.

Please note that the cost of our program is 30-40% less than

many other similar programs available in USA.

Numerous references of the past trips are available on request. I recommend that you

talk to some of them to find out how good this program is! Having some Japanese language background

is desirable but not required. Since our spaces is limited and will fill quickly,

We encourage you to contract us right away and reserve your place.

[A nonrefundable deposit of $100 is required to reserve your space]
